The Junior Division (JD) is responsible for the Primary, Intermediate and Secondary Schools Winter Competition.
Secondary: Starts 6th – 8th May 2024, Last week 26th-28th August.
(No play Kings Birthday Monday 3rd June, and School Holidays 8th-17th July)
Intermediate: Starts 3rd May 2024, Last week 30th August
(No play Kings Birthday Friday 31st May, Matariki Friday 28th June and during School Holidays, 12th & 19th July)
Mini Year 3-6: Starts 4th May, Last week 31st August
(No play Kings Birthday 1st June, Matariki weekend and School Holidays, 13th and 20th July)
Rainbow Funsticks Year 0-2: Coaches only 4th May. Teams from 11th May, Last week 31st August

It is very rare for hockey to be cancelled, as hockey is played on an artificial surface. Sometimes the turf can experience flooding but does drain away quickly once the rain stops.
Cancellation notifications will appear on the homepage of the website and a message on our Facebook page.
Waikato Hockey 6-a-side positional play
NOTE – This document sets out a pattern of play that will benefit both intermediate and secondary teams playing in 6-a-side competitions.
The Good Sports Spine is a tool to help parents, coaches, teachers and sport administrators understand how they impact children’s sport experiences.
The two different climates should be seen as opposite ends of a continuum. To support children to have positive sporting experiences, adults should aim to always fall under the Climate of Development.
