Suburbs Piako HC, which has been around for 70 years, focuses on providing social and competitive hockey for players of all abilities, backgrounds and ages. SPHC’s recently completed strategic plan firmly aims to build membership from the base up, ensuring a wider hockey membership that offers a pathway upwards for emerging talent for both men and women. Our 9 teams (3 women & 6 men) have a competitive spirit on the turf, but share in social events off the turf. Trainings are at St. Peter’s School, Cambridge and at WHA, Hamilton with coaches who are long standing club members. The Club has an active committee and can boast the 2021 HNZ’s Administrator of the Year as one of its members.
Te Awamutu is a hockey club that balances a strong ‘family’ feel with a competitive club environment, fielding Men’s and Women’s teams across all grades of the Waikato Hockey Association Senior competition. We welcome new players and pride ourselves particularly on developing younger players, alongside our experienced older ones.
Despite its name, Te Awamutu Hockey draws its membership from all over Hamilton, as well as the greater Waikato and Waipa regions. Established in 1990 when parent body Te Awamutu Sports was formed, the introduction of artificial turfs at Innes Common meant all club trainings and games moved to Hamilton.
Hence the club is essentially Hamilton based, and has subsequently grown to become one of the larger successful hockey clubs in the Waikato region.
