Huge congratulations to Luke who has been selected to represent NZ at the 2023 Junior World Cup in Malaysia. The cost of the buildup programme and attending is $12,500, which each athlete needs to fund.
“My name is Luke Aldred and I am a young Waikato raised hockey player who has been lucky enough to be selected to represent New Zealand U21s at the Sultan Of Johor Cup and Junior World Cup at the end of this year. While attending Hamilton Boys High School, success in hockey was always my dream and to finally achieve that dream is something I never thought would come true. During my years in Hamilton I represented Waikato, Midlands, Hamilton Boys, Hamilton Old Boys and Collegians. I have memorable experiences and learnings from all of these campaigns.

Needing to move away from Hamilton to further my Hockey career and education, I found myself in Auckland playing for East Coast Bays hockey Club where I got to play with/against the best players in the country. I have recently finished my study and achieved a certificate in Exercise where I look to be a Personal Trainer. In my first years in Auckland I was fortunate enough to be coached/mentored by Hamilton Old Boy and Blackstick Nic Woods who helped me mature and learn very quickly. After 2 very successful seasons in Auckland, I decided it would be best to go overseas to play hockey. At the end of 2022 I went over to England to play a season for Oxted hockey club who were very welcoming and supportive of me. I found this experience very valuable and was able to expand my knowledge of hockey massively.
I am hugely appreciative of any support you can give me, while I am now based in Auckland my origins are in the Waikato. I so enjoyed recently representing Waikato at the National Hockey Championships and with the new Premier Hockey League likely to hit off in 2024, it would be exciting for me to again play for the region, to keep my connection, and give back in any way I can.”
My name is Jon Tanner and as a major supporter of all thing’s hockey, especially young people who have big dreams and ambitions, I’ve agreed to launch Luke’s fundraising campaign with a $2,000 sponsorship by Craig’s Investment Partners (along my wife Sue and myself), and to help him raise the remaining $10,500 by seeking generous people (or businesses) to each donate or sponsor $100 (or more).
We have set up a grid as above with 105 blocks of $100 and invite you to put your name on one (or more) in support of Luke.
Please reply to Jon.Tanner@craigsip.com with the amount you would like to donate/sponsor. We will fill in with the name you nominate and send out updates as funds build and will also have it hosted on the Waikato Hockey website. Please make your payment to:
