COVID Update from Sport Waikato

From Sport Waikato 2.3.22

You would have likely heard the discussions underway at Ministerial level regarding the relaxing of regulations/mandates for vaccines for students participating in secondary school sport. We can confirm that this discussion is indeed underway, with it seems an impending relaxation of restrictions meaning that secondary school students will not need to be vaccinated to participate in Inter and Intra school (e.g. school organised) sporting competitions both inside and outside of school hours. This is likely to include at public facilities. Club sport we understand will not be included in any change, nor will the regulations surrounding any coaching/volunteer/school sport support (e.g. these individuals will still be required to be vaccinated if over 18).

It is important to note, however, that the above involves legislation change and is not yet confirmed. Despite the Minister hinting at change for secondary school sport, we have been advised that the details have not yet been agreed and will be communicated officially no later than the 15th of March.

We will be sure to keep you informed of the discussions taking place and will share information from Sport NZ as soon as it is released to us.
