The Waikato University Hockey Club were the dominant club across all
divisions in the Waikato Senior Grade competitions with their teams
contesting all seven of the men's and women's finals. Continuing
on from The Cook University Premier Men’s title won midweek the
club secured wins in a further three of the five remaining finals.
In both Reserve grade matches University prevailed with their women’s
team upsetting title favourites Te Awamutu 1-0 with a late goal and
in an all University Men’s final Varsity New World were upstaged
4-2 by the mobility and youth of the Goodfellas University team.
On the day the most comprehensive grade winners were Pastits whose team
mix of wily experience and youth saw them over power Varsity Challenge
Naylor Street 7-1 for the Division 3 title.
In the third division women's game Ngaruawahia clung on to win 1-0 over
Video Ezy University to secure the title in the grade in which they
have dominated during the season. Finally Admor Promotions University
capped off a triumphant day for the club to narrowly secure the Division
4 title over Suburbs Ecolab 4-3.
