Hamilton Boys High School and St Paul's Collegiate share the Hamilton Secondary Schools 1st XI Trophy for 2003 with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday 3rd September.

A large crowd of about 1,500 turned out for the Secondary Schools finals on Wednesday night, even though it was cold and wet especially for the lower grades. The rained eased off for the finals of the 1st XI girls and boys teams. St Paul's bused in their supporters, with high expectations.

The girls finals saw excellent skills in the centre field by both sides, but it was Hamilton Girls High School who had the forward strength and capitalised with more shots on goal than Waikato Diocesan. Dio were launched some strong attacks down the right but had difficulty penetrating the circle. HGHS won the match 2-0.

The boys final saw a repeat of last years final, ending in a 1-1 draw. Both teams showed their range of skills that took them into high rankings in the recent Secondary Schools National Tournaments.

Both teams created many opportunities in an exciting match, with umpires Andrew Whitehead and Ashley Burkhart allowing the game to flow.
