Game Summary
Monday
V Christchurch Boys High School (CBHS)

By the end of 10 minutes Christchurch had taken a 3-0 lead. The game then settled down to a much more evenly fought competition until Stuart Pitu intercepted a pass on half way, and capitalised on the opportunity to take the ball into the circle and score in fine style. Another notable attack came from Chris Connolly who made a 70 metre side line dash that resulted in a penalty corner, however this was not converted. Half time score 3-1.
In the second half Christchurch again scored early, then once more to take a 5-1 lead but St Paul’s continued to play good team hockey and were finally rewarded with a goal to Ronnie Bird after some excellent passing down the field. Final score 5-2 to CBHS.

Tuesday am
V Napier Boys’ High School

Napier Boys had a lucky win 1-0. St Paul’s gave the game everything, played well together as a team and had most of the attacking advantage. Strong defence also kept Napier scoreless in the first half and for at least half of the second half. A lucky goal gave them a 1-0 lead which they held on to – St Paul’s simply unable to capitalise on their scoring opportunities

Tuesday pm
V New Plymouth Boys’ High School

In a must win game, St Paul’s with tired legs once again stepped up and quickly stamped their mark on the game with some clever passing resulting in a goal to Stuart Pitu. St Paul’s continued to dominate and by half time had added a second goal through a penalty corner to Matt Johl. Half time 2-0. New Plymouth scored early in the second half and it was some time before St Paul’s found their early form and Ben Tanner scored to again give us a 2 goal advantage. It was short lived however as New Plymouth scored again but Sam Tingey was able to restore the advantage with a brilliant touch in the circle. While New Plymouth scored again, St Paul’s played brilliant defence and held on to both the ball and the lead for the last 5 minutes. Final score 4-3 to St Paul’s.
