Hamilton Boys High School Hockey wins coveted Super Eight Title.
7th August 2008 - Reporter, Hymie Gill

It has been a long time between titles but Hamilton Boys High School hockey team ended the drought over the weekend, by winning the Super Eight hockey tournament, for the first time since 2000.
On the road to victory HBHS had to overcome Tauranga in the first match of the tournament, and Palmerston North in the final. Both these two schools are ranked fourth and second in the national secondary school rankings.

HBHS played some fast and fluid hockey that was based upon staunch defence, which provide a platform upon which they could launch serious attacks. These fast and furious raids on the opposition goal allowed Matthew Orr and Seamus Hughes to grab four goals each over the five matches played.

The team was lead by Captain Aidan Davey who was cool and calm in defence and provided excellent leadership in testing periods. The midfield duo of Kyle Westerman and Zac Woods(NZU16) were inspirational as they worked tirelessly to snuff out opposition attacks and turned providers for the goal scorers. It was a true team performance that allowed them to control each match and sixteen boys who worked unselfishly for each other to achieve this title.

Eight schools from the central north island participate in the Super Eight Tournament. Tauranga Boys College, Rotorua Boys High School, Hamilton Boys High School, Palmerston North Boys High School, Gisborne Boys High School, New Plymouth Boys High School, Napier Boys High School and Hastings Boys High School.
