Te Awamutu make a clean sweep of the Intercity Womens Divisions when Bradleys Bunch (Te Awamutu B sponsored by Jenny & Chris Bradley) defeated Te Awamutu Blue 2-1 in the Intercity Div 2 Womens Final on Saturday.
The game started at a frenetic pace with shots on goal at a premium. TA Blue fullbacks Rachel Falconer & Bridget Daldy superbly contained the very dangerous Bradleys forward line in the first half until a well taken short corner conversion by Katherine McLean saw TA Blue to a 1-0 lead at half time.
In the second half Bradleys Bunch picked up the tempo and Francis Meikelhem, Greer Clift, Maggie Vickers and Janelle Abbott constantly tested the TA Blue defensive resolve which Falconer & Daldey and a tireless Mel Gunderson continually thwarted.
The game was thrown wide open when Clift converted a superbly taken PC to level the scores midway through the second half. Experienced Bradleys centre half Jane Stokes, in combination with player coach Jeanette Dodson and Waikato U15 schoolgirl rep Catherine Williams, showed their class in the latter stages to limit TA Blue attacks to long range solo efforts by a hard working Trudy Sandle.
The game appeared headed to extra time when another well taken PC saw Sarah Hobden well rewarded for her efforts. The match finished with all players sharing a "team photo".
