18-05-2003 Intercity Club Hockey took a back seat on Saturday with the National League Promotion-Relegation series in progress, but in the games that were completed David Heappey scored four times for Hamilton Old Boys as they drew 5-5 with Mount Maunganui at the Gallagher Hockey Centre, while Fraser Tech beat Papakura 5-0 in Pukekohe, Otumoetai beat Kohekohe 4-1 at the Mount, and in the final game of the day Suburbs beat Eastside University 4-1. In the Women’s Hockey that was played Southern United beat Onewhero-Pukekohe 3-2 in Pukekohe and Aces ran away from Mount Maunganui 7-2. Old Boys had a hesitant start to their game with Mount Maunganui as two soft goals went in, but then Heappey scored his first goal to reduce the deficit. Mount appeared to be getting away at 3-1 but Paul Rae broke through with a fine dribble through the Mount defence to score a fine individual goal. The second half was one of fluctuating fortunes as the ball was passed freely by both teams as they strived for ascendancy. Andrew Pratt, Clay Pearham, and Mark Graves, who had scored the first half goals for the Mount all featured in many movements, and the Old Boys defence was stretched on many occasions. After Alex Terris and Pearham had taken the Mount to 5-3, signs looked ominous for Old Boys but Heappey in his determined style rallied Old Boys to the extent that he could score another two goals to draw level. Old Boys had concerns at the last minute when Mount Maunganui forced a penalty corner but the strong shot went wide.
