| Date: 21-7-2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boots 'N' All Fraser Tech rebounded from a two goal deficit early in their game against Suburbs-Piako to win 4-3 at the Gallagher Hockey Centre on Saturday. In other Intercity Men's games Eastside University beat Old Boys 3-1, Otumoetai beat Kohekohe 7-0 at the Mount and Pukekohe Indians won by default from Mount Maunganui. In Intercity Women's hockey Fraser Tech beat Tokoroa 1-0, Ultimate University beat Mount Maunganui 3-0, Rose and Thorn Te Awamutu prevailed over Old Girls 2-1, and in a farcical situation in Pukekohe Onewhero-Pukekohe thrashed Aces 8-0 with the losing side playing the game with only 7 players. Fraser Tech attacked early in their game against Suburbs, but the Suburbs mid-field began to dominate for a time and were rewarded when they drove into the circle to find Andrew Whitehead who was on hand to open the scoring. Fraser Tech went close to equalising when Nick Connolly broke into the Suburbs circle and took a shot but was kept out. Both teams were contributing to the fast flowing nature of the game, and both had many threatening raids before Brett Sanders scored from a penalty stroke to extend Suburbs advantage. Still Fraser Tech persisted, and they were rewarded when Darren Luckin was on hand to reduce the deficit. At one goal down Fraser Tech attacked with renewed vigour, and from another assault in Suburbs territory Warren Phillips slammed in a great angular shot to equalise. It was Phillips again a few minutes later when he sent in another shot on the angle from the other side of the circle, for Tech to hit the front prior to the half time break. After a five goal bonanza from both teams in the first spell more goals were expected as the teams strived for ascendancy early in the second half, with Tech appearing to have the better of the exchanges. Brent Gatley finished off a great passing rush to increase the lead, and Tech were beginning to shut Suburbs out. Suburbs however were not prepared to surrender easily, and took play to the Tech circle, where shots were fired at the goal but the ball was scrambled clear. Suburbs pressed again and went close from a penalty corner where Tech counter-attacked, only for Suburbs to break the movement down to take play back to the circle, where Suburbs received a penalty stroke for Brett Sanders to score his second. There was still time for both teams to threaten each goal, with Connolly from Tech and Karl Sanders from Suburbs initiating promising attacks, but the game saw no further scoring so Fraser Tech took the three points and remain top of the table.
