OCEANIA CUP
Congratulations to the Black Sticks women for taking out the Oceania Cup with a hard fought 1-0 win over arch rivals Australia. The women were already assured of a place in Beijing with two spots available to Oceania teams, however the victory over Australia has lifted the women to 7th in the world, while Australia has now dropped back to 4th.
The Black Sticks men put up a brave fight against the Australian men but were unable to replicate the women, losing 3-1 in their final. The men now have one last opportunity to qualify for Beijing, when we host the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in February.

IT’S NHL TIME!!
This weekend sees the start of the 2007 NHL with all teams converging on Hamilton for the first double header weekend. The Black Sticks are now back with their NHL sides ensuring this year's NHL will be hotly contested. In 2006 Midlands Women surprised everyone to finish the round robin at the top of the table - can they go one further in 2007 and take out the K Cup? Will the North Harbour women successfully defend it or will their cross bridge rivals Auckland step up and take the spoils? Making it difficult for all of them will be perennial bridesmaids Canterbury who will be desperate to shake off their poor final form of previous seasons.
In the men's competition Australian legend Brent Livermore returns for a 5th season with Wellington ensuring they will once again be hard to beat. North Harbour welcomes back Blair Hopping, Canterbury have Hayden Shaw back in the ranks, while Midlands player coach Darren Smith will hope he can make an impact in his first year with this side. Will it be the same old top four teams battling it out come finals weekend or will one of the other four sides ruin the party for one of the big guns? Either way there will be some high quality hockey on display.
