Condolences and acknowledgment was made of the passing of Brian Bremner (NZHF Life Member).

Graham Child spoke of the importance of getting back the $300,000 of SPARC funding by qualifying and doing well in the Olympics 2008.
He also showed concern over player numbers. From his figures, Waikato has a poor imbalance of numbers of senior players as against growth in its population. 20 /24 Associations were ahead of the 8 ball.

In his presentation, Ramesh Patel gave more detail of marketing, events, administration, coaching and development. He was congratulated on the new NZ Hockey website with its availablity of new resources for free download and purchasing. The website cost was approx $10,000 plus $500 a month, which is the same as most Associations pay. Chris Leslie is contracted to produce a coaching DVD every two(2) months. This will be available on the web.

As profit from Test Matches is only $10,000 per year, venues will be chosen in future where "set-up" costs are least to NZHF. Waikato is hanging out for at least one Test in 2008.

One of the main focusses of the Conference was the NHL and the promotion of the MIDLANDS concept to increase high performance to fill the gap between regional representation and Black Stick level; which is considerable outside the major centres.
NHL squads are also encouraged to bring in a couple of overseas "guest players " to boost the learning process.

Some "red flags" were discussed. In summary...
• Lack of playing surfaces in Christchurch
• No suitable Central and Southern Administrator applications to date.
• The Qualifying of the Black Stick Men for the 2008 Olympics.
• The reliance of Gaming Trusts to provide income to Associations.
• Junior recruitment numbers

At the Saturday night Annual Dinner, Waikato stalwarts, John Wood; Bruce Rosemergy, and Graeme Haste received long service awards for their contribution to New Zealand Hockey through local Associations.

A Life Membership of New Zealand Hockey was awarded to Derek Wilshire, Wellington.
