Mini Hockey Housekeeping

Venues
Most games are held at Gallagher Hockey Centre (GHC), Queens Ave, Hamilton.
The carpark may be congested at times, but additional parking is available on Lake Domain Drive. Parents are advised not to leave valuables in view in their vehicles.

Some games may be played at Waikato Diocesan School turf- entry off Martin St, off McNichol off Clarkin Rd.

Cancellations
It is very rare for mini hockey to be cancelled as we play on an artificial surface. Sept 06.1.jpg
Sometimes we do experience flooding on the turf, but this  drains away quickly once the rain stops.

Since Hamilton weather can vary a lot from hour to hour, and suburb to suburb we do not broadcast cancellations on the radio. Coaches will be given a number to ring or text for information. We ask that individual parents do not phone in, as 800 parents all calling the hockey centre overloads the phone system, and no-one can get through!!!!

If weather conditions are severe (heavy rain & strong winds) games will not go ahead.

We hope to be able to add a cancellation service to this website during the season so that we can post cancellations on a game by game basis. Watch this space.

Warmup turf
The warm-up area at the south end of Gallagher Hockey Centre is available to teams under the supervision of their coaches for 30 minutes prior to the start of their game. In the interests of safety, players should not warm up on the concrete, and the grass should not be used as mud then gets taken onto the turf.

Timekeeping
A bell will ring to signal the start of games, half time and full time. For Milne Cup competition games (45 minutes long) umpires will be responsible for timekeeping.

Results
Please write results onto the Draws board. If you forget, these can be emailed to the Draws Convenor.

The results are important to us, as they are used to ensure you are competing against teams of similar ability.

First Aid
All teams are expected to bring their own basic first aid supplies:
Icepack, plasters, larger dressings for grazes & cuts, crepe bandages, disposable gloves, a flannel or clean cloth.

Game Etiquette
Parents often comment on the positive atmosphere at our hockey games, and we want to keep it that way!

  • Support your team enthusiastically
  • Thank the coaches and umpires
  • Players should give the other team 3 cheers at the end of the game and line up to shake hands

Swearing, spitting, handslapping, verbal abuse of umpires or players are not acceptable and may result in a ban from the grounds.

Please contact the Mini Chairperson with any queries or concerns.
