Mini Hockey Winter Competition Grades 2010

For all grades, the first few weeks are grading games. It is really important to record your score. Please don't despair if early games are one-sided, as the aim is to group all teams into divisions with others of similar ability as the season progresses.

If you feel your team is in the wrong grade or division, please speak to the Draws Convenor.

6 a side Junior
Is for players from Year 2-4
Year 4 players who have had previous experience or are natural athletes may be more suited to playing in a 6 a side Senior team.
Games are 30 minutes long, and played on a 1/4 turf at Gallagher Hockey Centre

6 a side Senior
Is aimed at Year 5-6 first time players, or those with previous experience who aren't yet skilled enough to play in the 8 a side game.

6 a side Senior also caters for schools who don't have enough children to field an 8 a side team. This grade will be split into 2 or 3 divisions based on results as the season progresses.

Games are 30 minutes long, and played on a 1/4 turf at Gallagher Hockey Centre.

8 a side competition
This competition is aimed at Year 5-6 players with previous hockey experience. 8 a side teams require a coach familiar with the rules of modern hockey. Capable Year 4 players may also play in this grade.

Games are 30 minutes long and played on a 1/2 turf at Gallagher Hockey Centre.

Milne Cup Competition
This season, all 8 a side teams will play in a grading round for the early part of the season.
The top 8 teams will then be selected to play in a round-robin competition for the Milne Cup.
Games in the Milne Cup competition will be 45 minutes long. Semi-finals will be played on Sept 4th & finals on Sept 11th.

Smallsticks
Every Saturday morning at 9.30 a.m. this programme caters for younger children not in a school team (4-6 year olds). The sessions will include basic skills and modified games, with the emphasis on enjoying hockey. Just turn up on the day.
