The results of the recently completed International
Masters Hockey Tournament in Melbourne were as follows:
Women's 35+ won all 7 games and won the gold medal against Australia 6
-4.
Men's 40s only lost 1 game in round robin against Australia 40's but then
won the final against them 2-1. A fantastic effort given all their injuries
and the 1st time they have won this division for a number of years.
Men's 50s came 2nd (with 4 wins, 1 draw & 1 loss), with Australia
claiming the gold medal based on round robin results.
Women's 40+ game third in the women's division and were unlucky not to
make the final, so a great result for a team that was on average 5 years
older than others in their division. Robyn Matthews received female player
of the tournament, she had a great tournament and really helped control
the centre of the 35+ team. The FIH delegate remembered her from her NZ
playing days and said she still had great ball control and flair for the
game.
Attached are 3 photos, one showing the men's 40s shortly after the final
finished, with score board in background. One of the two gold medal winning
teams combined and 1 with the 35 women after the medal ceremony.
Waikato people in the photos are: Pete Nicol, Geoff Williamson,
Graeme Haste, Debbie Balme, Robyn Matthews, Sue Hill, Sheryl Lacy, Bridget
Daldy and x- waikato coach, Doug Sommerville.
