NEWSLETTER #2
National Under 13 Girls Tournament

The Waikato Hockey Association is pleased to be hosting the National Under 13 Girls Hockey Tournament from Saturday, October 1st to Friday, October 7th and we are looking forward to welcoming your team and supporters.

Accomodation Details of what is available were sent out in a previous newsletter but if you did not receive this you can view it on our internet site www.waikatohockey.org.nz

Opening Ceremony
This will now commence promptly at 5.00pm and teams will be expected to assemble on the water turf at 4.30pm. The march past will be led by the current NZ Champions the Hamilton Caledonian Society Pipe Band.
Ribbon swapping will take place at the end of the Opening Ceremony and this year team members will be directed to areas according to their team numbers where exchanges will take place. We have had many complaints about the system used in the past so make sure that each team member knows what their number is.

Facilities
The hockey pavilion overlooks the sand turf while open seating overlooks the water turf. There is a canteen and lounge area. Toilets can be found both in the pavilion and in the old pavilion changing rooms. Each team will have a named meeting room but teams need to come dressed for games and we suggest shower back at accommodation. We do have showers but do not recommend their use because of the traffic through the meeting rooms.

Parking Minibus parking is reserved for teams. Other parking has been increased at the centre but some supporters may have to park on Lake Domain Drive and surrounding streets. Lock vehicles and do not leave any valuables in them. We will carry out security checks but you cannot count on this.

Draw
A draw will be sent out once seedings have been determined by NZHF. Both turfs will be in action at the tournament. There will be limited time for warm ups and warm downs because of the tight time schedule.

Practices
Both the water and sand turfs will be available on Saturday, October 1st up to 3.30pm. The cost will be $40 for one hour/half turf practices. Book by Email to Denise Hill at WaikatoHockey@xtra.co.nz

Managers and Umpires Meetings
The Umpires meeting will be now be held at 6.00pm and the Managers Meeting at 7.30pm in the Hockey Pavilion on Saturday, October 1st.
An agenda, reminders re registration forms, bringing playing and alternative strip, team changes will be sent later.

Coaches Forum
This will be held at the pavilion at the Hockey Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 4th and will be conducted by a top Hockey NZ coach. A personal invitation will be coming from Hockey NZ regarding this.

Social Evening for Supporters
This will be held in the pavilion on Wednesday, October 5th commencing at 7.30pm. The cost will be $5.00 and because of space will be limited to the first 60 to register. A fun night has been planned.

Umpires Dinner
The Waikato Umpires Committee is providing a dinner for the Umpires and Officials on the evening of Thursday, October 6th at no cost. The time of the dinner will notified at the umpires meeting.

Tournament Shirts Details ABOVE.

Tournament Rules
You should bring your own copies of the Tournament Rules which can be downloaded from the NZHF website www.nzhockey.org.nz
An abridged form will be in the programme and a copy for you to read at Tournament headquarters. You should also be familiar with the the NZHF Code of Conduct, mouth guard, blood, head injury, drug and smokefree policies.

Team Photographs - Global Pix
These will be taken on Monday, October 3rd and bookings will be taken at the Managers Meeting.
The cost for a named laminated copy is $12 , money to be paid to the photographer on the day photos are taken. Photos will be delivered on the Friday of the tournament.

Action Photographs - Ben Campbell
Action photographs will be available:
Price:
6 by 4 inch - $8
5 by 7 inch - $10
8 by 12 inch - $25
+$2 P&P per order.

Photos will be available during the course of the Tournament and each team will be photographed at least once.
All photos are printed on Professional Photo Paper by a Professional Lab and last for 130 years. Ben has been taking action photographs at many National Tournaments including last years Hatch Cup Tournament.

Canteen
A copy of what is available from our canteen is attached. A packed lunch can be provided if ordered the day before. This would contain a sandwich/breadroll,scone/muffin and a piece of fruit for $5.00.

Meal Deals
The Cosmopolitian and Workingman's Clubs will do meals for the teams.

Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club is in Claudelands Rd. Ph (07)8552001, Fax (07)8547775, Email theclub@wave.co.nz Bookings will be taken up to a fortnight before tournament (16th September). $10.00 for dinner and dessert. See attached menu for other food they can provide.

Hamilton Workingmans Club 45 Commerce St, Ph (07) 8476476, Fax (07) 8462682, Email hwmc@hwmc.co.nz - Book a month in advance. $14.00 carvery meal. Manager to phone the day before to confirm numbers and time of arrival.

Programme
When you send your team in please make sure it is either in block letters or typed but preferably Emailed directly to me at seddonp@ihug.co.nz Handwritten faxes even by those with good handwriting are often hard to read and lead to disappointment when programmes are printed. Please make sure that the number of the player is the number on their shirt. Please note also the deadline for sending in the team list. Teams who do not meet this deadline run the risk of being left out of the programme.

Cell Phones
All teams must have a cell phone we can contact throughout the tournament. This will be for your convenience as well as ours. The Managers name, accommodation and cell phone number are needed for the programme. Please supply this asp.

Email
We will be communicating with you by Email after this newsletter. This one will be sent by post and by Email if you have provided it. This means we can have instant contact with you and can deal with queries immediately. All current and previous newsletters can also be sourced on our website. Can you please send me your Email as soon as you receive his newsletter.

Texting Service
We will be providing you with an opportunity to take advantage of a texting service supplied by TRNZ Ltd. Details will be in our next correspondence but in the meantime check their website www.txtresults.co.nz

Results
Results will posted on both the Waikato website www.waikatohockey.org.nz and NZHF website www.nzhockey.org.nz at the end of each round.

Alternative Strip
Make sure you have an alternative strip. White shirts and socks is not a good choice. If your association cannot supply you with anything suitable try and obtain a local school strip. Check that the sizes of the alternative strip provided by your association fit your team.

First Aid
St. John's will be in attendance but you should have your own first aid kit. Ice is available at the hockey centre. Managers are allowed on the turf to deal with an injury and they invite the St. John's on only if they feel this is necessary. Managers and Coaches need to be familiar with procedures that need to be followed if bruising, bleeding occur and head injuries. This will also be explained at the Managers Meeting.

Team Liaison
You will be allocated a team liaison person during your stay to help answer any queries regarding non tournament matters and you will be notified of their name and contact details in our final newsletter.

In the meantime do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. No matter is too trivial.

Cheers,

Seddon Polglase Denise Hill
