Newsletter # 2

May 2008

With the 2008 playing season well underway it is probably timely to remind Clubs of a few matters;

Gallagher Hockey Centre Turf Rules (abridged)

No climbing over or sitting on the hoarding fences.

Approved footwear only on the turf surface.

No smoking, food, chewing gum or spitting is permitted on the turf

No glass bottles permitted on the turf. Plastic bottles must be removed at the end of the game.

Game Times

All games must start on time. If you start late, for whatever reason, you need to finish on time.

Non appearance of named umpires

A big effort is being made to get umpires to your games. If they have not arrived please get your game underway, and clearly mark on the score card that your named umpires did not arrive. Also put the name of the actual umpires on the score card.

Health & Safety

All teams must bring their own first aid kits to all games.

Players must leave the turf if bleeding and may only return once the wound is covered and uniform free of exposed blood.

Turf watering

Remember all teams must have a representative who knows how to water the turf.

A watering cycle is built into the draw so please take note and water the turf as required. If your team does not have a representative that can water the turf then please make contact with Denise at the WHA Office for watering instructions. (ph 8380485)

Turf lights

If you are the last team training and Jo & Raewyn are not around then please ensure there is someone around who can turn off the lights. Please contact your Club secretary to find out who your Club pavilion key holder is.

 Trans Tasman Masters Challenge Series

Thanks to Neil Thistlethwaite and his organising committee the SMB have once again managed to host another very successful Tournament here in Hamilton.

Unfortunately Australia retained the Trans Tasman Cup.

WHA Centennial Celebrations – 14th/15th/16th November 2008.

A working committee has been set up to oversee the planning for the Waikato Hockey Association Centennial celebrations to be held in November. All Clubs are asked to rally their members (past and present) to see if they have any memorabilia etc that will be of interest to these celebrations. Seek out your Club historians and get in touch with this committee through the Waikato Hockey Office, or email whacentennial@yahoo.com,
