7th May 2007

The Mini hockey season for 2007 got off to a foggy start with 82 teams in this year’s competition.
For the first time in ten years all mini hockey games are being played at the one venue, Gallagher Hockey Centre, much to the delight of busy parents, coaches and administrators.

Opening day was a great success with many secondary and intermediate students turning up to help umpire mini teams for their younger siblings or their old primary school. Colin Watson, and Alastair & Helen Kerr were on hand to support new umpires.

The Smallsticks session catered for 24 youngsters who all have ambitions to be future Blacksticks.

A big thankyou to the Dawson family for providing the coaches for this group.

It was great to catch up with old friends from last season, and also to welcome our newest hockey school, Horsham Downs.

GIVING TIME BACK: Top Suburbs Striker, Ian Haste, gives time back to the young players in Saturday's Mini Hockey Opening Day. Three generations of the Haste family are giving service to hockey, which is much appreciated by Waikato & New Zealand Hockey.
