A big thankyou to everyone for your patience last Saturday travelling to
alternative venues for our mini games. It certainly highlights what
a wonderful facility we have at Gallagher Hockey Centre.
QUEENS BIRTHDAY There is no mini hockey on the Saturday of Queens Birthday weekend (May
31st)
PLAYER REGISTRATION Every year Waikato Hockey collects details for every team of the name,
gender, age and ethnicity of the players. This is used to plan ahead for the following
season, and also to support applications for grant and sponsorship funding.
These are due in by 14th June and I am happy to have either
an emailed list, including the team name, or a hand-written copy. Forms
will be available at GHC from this Saturday.
UMPIRES A reminder that all 8 a side teams should have an umpire who is not the
coach. If you havenÕt yet found someone, approach former students who
have moved on to your local intermediate or high school. Perhaps there
is a willing (or reluctant) parent. Support for umpires is available
from Alastair Kerr & Colin Watson every Saturday morning. In 6 a side games there should also be 2 umpires on the field, one from
each team. ItÕs O.K. for this to be the coach as often the children
will need explanation of what to do during the game.
YEAR 5/6 REPRESENTATIVE TEAM TRIALS
Sunday 8th & 15th June at Southwell School. See separate notice for full details
Coaches are still needed for both the Girls and Boys Development teams.
COACH TRAINING Jack Clayton is running the following sessions:
For coaches of 5-8 Year olds Sun 22nd June 10 a.m. Š 1 p.m. For coaches of 9-12 Year olds Sun 29th June 10
a.m. Š 1 p.m.
Learn how to plan practices, and activities to use. A folder of ideas is
included in the course. Content of both courses will be similar, but
obviously with older children,
positional play and more complex drills can be introduced.
Cost $40 per person. Waikato Mini Hockey is offering a subsidy of $20.
Perhaps your school will pay the balance of $20. Limitted to 20 people
