WAIKATO MINI HOCKEY

NEWSLETTER JUNE 2008

HOLIDAY BREAK

We have one further Saturday of hockey on June 28th before the holiday break.

Hockey resumes on Sat 26th July and continues until 6th Sept for 6 a side and 13th Sept for 8 a side.

There will be no holiday programme in the July holidays. During the 1st week  (July 7th Ð 12th) Waikato is hosting the National Under 18 boys tournament. Waikato is playing at 2 p.m. on the first 3 days, and admission is free, so come along and support the local boys.

During the second week of the holidays, the practice turf area is available throughout the week if parents or coaches want to pop in for a few hits with their children, or organise a fun game for their team.

FIRST AID

Teams are reminded that they should each have a basic first aid kit, containing plasters, a crepe bandage, an icepack and  a flannel or similar to both cover the  icepack and cover more serious bleeds. Although there is usually ice available in the pavilion, this canÕt be guaranteed. Ice applied promptly to bruising and sprains can make a huge difference to how quickly a player recovers from an injury.

YEAR 5/6 REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS

Congratulations to the 60 players who have been selected to play for Waikato this year. This year the rep players come from many different schools so this is a credit to all the parents and teachers out there who are coaching.

VENUES AND TIMING OF GAMES

Thankyou to everyone who responded with their views about the timing of mini hockey games and venues. There was a clear message to keep things as they are, with players at the one venue on a Saturday morning. Many of you have busy lives but really look forward to what one parent described as the Òfestive, family, funÓ atmosphere each Saturday at mini hockey.

MILNE CUP

The Milne Cup competition for the Senior 8 a side teams begins on Sat 28th June.

Semifinals on Sept 6th & finals on Sept 13th.

NEXT MINI HOCKEY MEETING

Tues 22nd July at 7.15 p.m. All are welcome.
