Waikato's Debbie Balme - NZ Hockey Manager Reports

Greetings all

I apologise to those of you that have been sitting on the edge of your seats waiting for the next installment (just kidding!!) but the pace around here has certainly picked up. The team arrived yesterday and on arrival at our spot in the village we were greeted with the most amazing Haka - was quite different being on the receiving end - totally awesome!! We replied with a Waiata which was very well received - bet you didn't know I had hidden talents!! The total gob smacked look is still in place but I am beginning to control it.

That night we had the official welcome from Dave Currie and his team and we were presented with our opening ceremony shirts and a greenstone pendant with the silver fern engraved on it - very special. The session fininshed with a song written especially for the NZ team by one the medical staff - well that was it not a dry eye in the room - the girls are as bad as me!!!!

We are now settled in and the team have decorated their apartments - looking good!! We are did up a scap booking page about ourselves and we will put them up in a big mural later on today (if time permits!!)

I have decided that Posh and Madonna can have their famous lifestyle - I have never ever had my photo taken so many times with so many asians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tell you they must be getting desperate - quite a laugh actually as you can well imagine especially and I LOVE having my photo taken (NOT!!!)

We have a training game against China tonight and have just sat in our meeting room and watched this awesome dvd that Kevin (coach) has made up of our road to Beijing - I tell you there can't be too many tears left!! He is giving us all a copy - hope you get the chance to see it someday.

Well have better go another meeting coming up - just have time to get a fresh coffee made from our on site Barrrista (excuse the speling) honest we have a lass form NZ as part of the team - unbelievable - she does make a mean coffee thou!!

Hope you are coping with the weather - hot and humid here

Love to all

Deb
